All eyes were on God last night in Game 1 of the 2007 World Series. Many commentators believed that the Rockies MVP of the regular season would be the difference between the two teams, but unfortunately God had one of his off nights; "He moved in mysterious ways, but he didn’t perform any wonders." said a sarcastic Peter Gammons.
Indeed since the Rockies, including manager Clint Hurdle, have indicated that everything they do is influenced by God, a lot of people in Colorado are holding Him responsible for the defeat, particularly with reference to a couple of dubious managerial decisions by Hurdle.Even his attempt to get the game rained off was thwarted by an experienced Red Sox grounds crew. But given his nickname in the clubhouse (The Supreme Being) confidence should not be a factor, and word was passed down that He was itching to get back onto the field for Game 2.
There are still those in the media who question His big name temperament, but in a post match interview he said "You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not acquit anyone who misuses his name."
We await Game 2 with awe, majesty and wonder.
(A word of warning to the Rockies opponents in the NL West next year, scouting reports are predicting that God’s Son could be just as influential a player as His Father;"He’s definitely ready for the big leagues" said Rockies Triple A coach Reverend Malachi Jones "We plan to use him as a closer. We believe that Jesus can save games as well as souls".
